Mauricio Vidal

Born in IbaguƩ (Colombia) in 1969. After studying Social Communication in Bogota, worked several years as an Editor, to start his career in the travel show EL MUNDO AL VUELO with HECTOR MORA. From 1994 to 1999 they shot in places like Eastern Island, French Polynesia, New Zealand, Australia, Patagonia, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Hong Kong, Unified Germany, France, and Bahamas, among others.

At the same time he works with Rhayuela Films shooting commercials and music videos for bands like "Aterciopelados" and "El Bloque de Busqueda". To keep himself ā€œgroundedā€ Mauricio has shoot several documentaries that have taken him to the heart of Colombia, its jungles, its coasts, and its armed conflict.

After being cinematographer for several short Films, he was Camera Operator in EL COLOMBIAN DREAM (Felipe Aljure). Then he would shot his debut film as DP: LA HISTORIA DEL BAUL ROSADO (Libia Gómez). From then on, Mauricio has kept busy shooting commercials, documentaries and feature films like the award winner SATANAS (directed by Andi Baiz), LA MILAGROSA, by Mexican director Rafa Lara, CHANCE shot in PanamÔ with director Abner Benaim, and CONTRACORRIENTE directed by Javier Fuentes-León, shot in the Northern coast of Peru (Audience Award at Sundance 2010 and SPECIAL SCREENINGS SELECTION at Camerimage Festival in Poland).

Mauricio recently finished shooting the documentary series TABU LATINOAMERICA (Adriana MariƱo) for NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, and the feature films THE BOSS,  directed by Jaime Escallon and BALLS directed by Guillermo Ivan DueƱas.

He has also given Cinematography Workshops and lectures with several universities and the Colombian Ministry of Culture. In 2007 was invited to the International Film School in San Antonio de los BaƱos (Cuba) to be Cinematography Consultant. He is one of the Founders of the Colombian Society of Cinematographers ADFC, and a member of the Digital Cinematography Society.
